Maciej Gąsienica Giewont is an artist originally from Zakopane, continuing a multi-generational family tradition of woodworking while giving it a modern, signature dimension. For over 30 years, he has followed his own artistic path, establishing his studio in Warsaw nearly two decades ago. As a self-taught artist inspired by American and British artistic woodturning, he has developed a unique technique on the lathe.

In his work, he consciously shifts away from utilitarian objects toward decorative forms, often inspired by classical vessel shapes. His multi-stage process is based on precision-cutting deep grooves into green wood, which becomes his partner in the creative process. Through the unpredictable warping that occurs during the natural drying process, he and nature together create fascinating, dynamic, and original sculptural forms.
