Monika Patuszyńska, explorer of abandoned spaces and untried paths, member of the International Academy of Ceramics (AIC/IAC). In 1999 she graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. She was the last designer at the Zakłady Porcelitu Stołowego Pruszków (Pruszków Table China Factory) and the last president of the International Ceramics Symposium “Porcelain Another Way”. Between 2014 and 2016 she held the position of the Artistic Director at the Institute of Design in Kielce. Addicted to porcelain. Fascinated by the passage of time and everything that comes with it.

Patuszyńska is internationally recognised for her radical approach to porcelain. Her practice involves smashing and reassembling discarded moulds, intentionally preserving cracks and seams to create dynamic, thought-provoking forms. Alicja Patanowska – The Ripple Effect V&A x LDF

  • Google Calendar ICS

We're delighted to share some exciting news: Our very own ceramic designer, Alicja Patanowska, will be a featured artist at the prestigious V&A this year as part of the London Design Festival. We are incredibly proud to see her latest commission come to life on such a prominent stage.
Introducing: "The Ripple Effect"
Alicja’s newly commissioned project, "The Ripple Effect," is a ceramic seating installation created specifically for the V&A’s garden and pond. This breathtaking work is an invitation to reflect on our relationship with the earth's natural resources.
The piece is made with over 2,000 hand-made ceramic tiles derived from one of Europe’s largest mining waste deposits. Coated with copper and featuring a built-in fountain to circulate water, the installation serves as a poetic visual commentary on the complex relationship between industrial waste and value in mining. It is a powerful and thoughtful response to critical sustainability issues.
This installation is part of the UK/Poland Season 2025, a significant cultural collaboration co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, British Council, and Polish Cultural Institute in London.
Join the Artist at a Special Event
To mark this occasion, we invite you to attend a special event with Alicja:

  • Friday Late ‘5 Rhythm Session’ with Alicja Patanowska

  • Location: Madejski Gardens, V&A

  • Date: Friday, September 19

  • Time: 6 PM

  • Admission: Free to attend

We hope you will join us in celebrating Alicja's outstanding achievement and this meaningful contribution to the London Design Festival.

Join Us for the Launch of Oskar Zięta’s "Whispers" at the London Festival of Architecture 2025

Oskar Zięta's latest public sculpture, Whispers, will debut at the London Festival of Architecture 2025. This event is part of the Fleet Street Quarter's contributions to the festival and is included in the UK/Poland Season 2025.

Whispers is an interactive installation created using Zięta's pioneering FiDU (Freie Innendruck Umformung) technology, which transforms flat metal sheets into lightweight, three-dimensional forms through internal air pressure. During the live event, the public will witness the sculpture's "inflation," bringing the piece to life in real time.

Following the unveiling, there will be a talk titled “A Quiet Place in a Noisy City” featuring Oskar Zięta and Ben Russell, Curator of Mechanical Engineering at the Science Museum. They will discuss the inspiration and technology behind Whispers, exploring themes of public space, design innovation, and the role of architecture in amplifying diverse voices.

The installation will remain on display until 28 September 2025, inviting visitors to engage with its reflective surfaces and consider the festival's theme of "Voices." Zięta emphasizes the importance of inclusivity in design, stating, “Designing public and private spaces, as well as entire cities, would be meaningless without the voices that shape them. These voices are numerous—often contradictory, and sometimes silent. Let architecture empower people to speak—whether in a firm voice or a whisper.

Whispers is co-produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the Polish Cultural Institute in London, Let’s Art Foundation, and On & On Designs, highlighting the collaborative spirit between Poland and the UK.
